My Approach

"Your happiness depends on your self-reliance, to take responsibility for your life, regardless of who had a hand in making it the way it is now. It’s about being the hero of your life, not the victim" -John Reyes

I believe a therapist’s job is to guide people to find their own solutions, not to “fix” the client.  My ultimate goal is to help clients learn to solve their own problems, and learn self acceptance along the way.  I know I've done my job when you no longer need me!

My therapeutic approach is eclectic, however, I most frequently use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT),  Reality Therapy, and Brief Solutions Focused Therapy.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy is perhaps the most widely known therapeutic theory and treatment. CBT (as it is commonly known) is effective and evidence-based. In CBT, clients learn the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and then change their patterns and learn to cope with stressors in a more positive way. CBT utilizes structure, homework, and coping skills to achieve goals. Reality Therapy focuses on problem-solving and making better choices to meet basic needs.

Reality Therapy is based on the premise an individual can only control their actions, their thoughts, and their beliefs in life. What I do is to help you learn to manage and change any actions, thoughts, or beliefs that are possible obstacles to your building and living the life you want.

I collaborate with clients to set realistic, achievable goals in addition to learning strategies to manage emotions and thoughts that may be overwhelming.

Sometimes my clients don't have specific goals, and just want someone to talk to, to bounce ideas off, or to process their feelings and feel heard, and that's okay too! I adjust my approach to align with my clients’ personalities and needs. People aren't all the same, so why should their therapy be?
